Plombières-lès-Bains qualifies as one of these cities, about which Pliny declared: « Aquae urbes condunt ». « Waters fund cities ». Thank to its waters, this small town with a Southern charm became famous as early as Roman times. Romans built the spas which can still be seen today. The illustrious Montaigne cured his pains here, as well as Stanislas Leczinsky, Duke of Lorraine, and Joséphine de Beauharnais, Napoleon’s first wife.
It was actually Napoleon III who gave this spa town its second life by staying there seven times. Plombières owes the Emperor its neo-gothic church, its park, its Thermes Napoleon, its Palais Royal, its Pavillon des Princes and the vast underground constructions achieved by an engineer named Jutier. All these memories of a glorious past are rendered very vivid by the many historical monuments, which line up in the city with a “thousand balconies”.
A typical town, with a unique charm, whose heart beats to the rhythm of the seasons. Winter offers the magic of an old time Christmas market. Spring is marked by the Printalies gastronomic days, the anointment of the spas and the "Foire aux petits cochons", a food fair. Summer is a time for festivities: antique markets, music, fireworks, artists and yard sales. Autumn also has many attractions to offer, with hikes, cultural and historical conferences, and games organised on a daily basis.
Plombières is not only a charming and lively city: it is above all a spa town. Indeed, Calodaé’s spas deliver year-round cures for intestinal and rheumatic afflictions, as well as body cares and relaxation spaces, in an authentic décor offering: spas, thermal pools, hot rooms, saunas, water jets, Jacuzzi and relaxing treatments. For lovers of the outdoors, the city centre is also the starting point of tours and hikes, which will lead you to enjoy unique views from terraced gardens surrounding Plombières. Animations and activities are also available day and night at the Casino de Plombières, where the conferences and round tables of the 3rd European Biennial Event of Highland Regions will take place.Regarding hotels, Plombières-lès-Bains offers a wide choice of quality establishments. The CCI of the Vosges chose the Hôtel Prestige Impérial to welcome the participants in its 3rd European Biennial Event.
Located in the core of the spas, this 19th century three-star hotel is adjacent to the prestigious Thermes Napoleon. It offers a choice of 80 rooms all renovated in a stylish modern way, a summer garden, a large terrace, a tennis court and a restaurant, L’Orangerie. It is there, in one of the most beautiful rooms of eastern France, that the gala party will take place, on September 17th.
